Teen Pregnancy: Problems Pregnant Teen Face

1. Teenage mothers have a higher rate of anemia and pregnancy induced hypertension occurring.

2. Babies are more likely to be born premature and/or suffer from low birth weight.

3. These children can also be predisposed to mental retardation, brain damage, and injury at birth.

4. More likely to develop problems such as
  • poor weight gain
  • premature labor
  • placenta abruptio
  • preeclampsia.
5. The general rule is this: the younger the mother, the greater the risk of complications for both the mother and her child.

6. Some of these problems are due to the teenager's physical immaturity, the fact that they are still growing and poor nutrition.

7. Other problems happen because the pregnant teenager denies the fact that she is pregnant or ignores it, which delays getting proper care for the growing baby inside of her.
