What is Ovulation?

Ovulation is the development and release of an ovum (egg) from a woman's ovaries. It is the fertile period of a woman's menstrual cycle. So if you are trying to fall pregnant you will need to understand when you are ovulating to ensure that you time intercourse in a "fertile period".

To increase the chances of getting pregnant, you need to have sexual intercourse in your fertile period. But how do you find out the most fertile days of the month? For this you have to know the days when your ovaries release an egg which is ready for fertilization. The Ovulation calculator finds your fertile days as per the first day of your last menstrual cycle.

You can pinpoint a likely time of ovulation by counting backward from the date you expect your next period. You need to know the length of your cycle, which can be anywhere from 24 to 40 days long. You will ovulate from 12 to 16 days before your period begins. To help determine the time range for your own ovulation, try our ovulation calculator. You have to just tell us the first day of your last menstrual period and the average length of your cycle. The calculator takes day 14 (the middle day in the spread) and the length of your cycle as it's deciding factors.

Having intercourse during the few days before ovulation will give you the best chance of becoming pregnant.
